Social Sciences Citation Index

6/25/2014

The Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) an easy to use database and provides abstracts and references and full text links for articles from around one twenty businesses and management journals. It covers the related fields like accountancy, finance, economics and public administration. It therefore becomes an important source in literature search as it majorly covers the recent academic journals published on the area of interest.

The guidelines for searching SSCI are:

Ø The researcher should click on GO beside Web of Science

Ø One should choose Social Science Citation Index by unticking the Science and Arts sections.

Ø Click on GENERAL SEARCH. It should be noted that the default is to search 1980 to date. It could be changed by using the pull-down menus.

Ø Then it could be searched by topic or by AUTHOR

Apart from containing complete coverage of journal contents, the SSCI also comprises of editorial material and book reviews which are again easy to be identified through keyword searches.

Another important feature of SSCI is ‘Times cited’ link. If the scholar finds an article which is important to the project work, he/she could click to see which other articles have cited it. This helps in two ways: one by telling how this particular article has been used in more recent research and also if it has been challenged. It also facilitates in making an impression of the article and the ideas in it have been developed with new data
